Krapi estate was once owned by a man called Grabbe, of which Krapi is the Finnish translation.

Is the golf club part of Krapi?
No, it is not. Tuusula Golf Club Ltd is a separate business that has leased about 38 hectares of  land from Krapi for its golf course.

Who is the owner of Krapi? Is it a private business?
Krapi is owned by the Holma family. Krapihovi Ltd is a private business which in addition to the Holma family is also partly owned by their close relatives.
Krapi is marketed as part of the chain of Finlandia Hotels.

How many times has the chimneyless sauna burned down?
The chimneyless sauna has nearly burned down twice and once totally, in 1997. The chimneyless sauna that is standing today is built on the old foundations around the old sauna oven.

Does the chimneyless sauna use electric heating elements? How long does it take to heat it?
The sauna is heated for 7 hours with a meter-long logs and it does not have electric heating elements. The steam lasts for about 12 hours with one heating.

How old is the main building of Krapi?
The main building was finished in 1883.

Is Salme Holma still active in the business?
Salme Holma has retired but is still the chairman of the board.

Is the painting in the Krapihovi hall a portrait of the lady of the house and her child?
No. The people in the portrait have remained unknown. The painting was acquired in an auction held in Ušhkov’s Syväranta at the start of the 20th century.

How old is the sourdough of the Krapi’s sour bread?
Good question! The age of the sourdough is hard to estimate but it came to the house with the then masters of the house in 1911.

Is Krapihovi haunted?
If you believe in ghosts you can be sure to encounter some in the house. Their presence can be sensed late at night after all the guests have left.

Is there a smell of cowshed in Hotel Krapi?
No, there is not. However, in spring-time wind may carry in a whiff of wet and fertilized soil from the golf course.

Is the summer theatre covered?
The audience seats are covered but the actors perform under open sky.

Is it safe to swim in Lake Tuusulanjärvi? How far away is the lake?
Yes it is. Late in the summer there may be some algae in the lake but it is still safe to swim as long as you wash yourself afterwards. If there is plenty of algae in the lake, swimming may not feel that tempting. Distance to the lake is about 400 meters.

Is Ateljeeri the local Golf Club?
No, it is not. Tuusula Golf Club Ltd has its own Club House about 100 meters further from the restaurant Ateljeeri.

What animals are there in Krapi park?
At Krapi park wanders birds, squirrels, pheasants and rabbits.
